Chapter One of a story I started. I'm only posting chapter one to get some feedback so I can see what works and what doesn't. It was a normal assignment: "parent" an egg for two weeks to learn about responsibility. For Kyle, however, the end of the assignment brings about a whole new beginning.

Greedy for power and her cruelty knowing no limits, the queen has even reinstated the slave trade long since outlawed by her husband upon his ascension. A glimmer of hope for a suffering nation arises in a small baby. The Royal Sage has procured the late king's bastard son and has stolen him away to the city slums to live with Harren, a man who bravely rescues orphans from slavery. Naming the boy Kyran, Harren takes him in with the promise of one day returning him to his rightful place on the throne. Ten years later, these plans are dashed when Kyran is exposed to the queen. Harren must race to the safety of the Riverlands, who hold no love for the queen, if there is any chance to save his son, and future king. Saving Kyran saves the nation. Watty's 2018 Long list! Highest Ranking: #1 in Action & #1 in Fantasy. (For ease of reading for those with mobile devices, this written work will be one story section per chapter.) Brenna Caldwythe walks in the forest on her sixteenth birthday and discovers a relic. Her discovery begins a chain of events which will forever alter her purpose in life. Aederan, the world upon which she lives is threatened by unspeakable evil, which is growing in strength and power. "Listen child to the voices in the wind blowing through the grasses and the leaves, they speak of many things; the wise should listen to what they have to say. You are young and know not of the darkness, yet you sense its wicked ways. The evil is spreading through the water, the soil, and through the air, seeking to corrupt the world," Elliana said. "As a flickering flame can shine brightly in the darkness, driving back the shadows; so too, can the power of one who is pure, strong of heart, and faithful. My child, you are the one Light of Elliana and are Aederan's greatest hope. Go forth, and rally those who share your dream of finding the sanctuary, for within lays the destiny of your world." Prince Donovan Answaar, through events, finds himself guided deep into the forest. Determined friends, in the form of Morgan, Changa, Girard, among others, are found by Brenna who leads them to Donovan. Five friends realize they're experiencing the same recurring dreams which state they must begin a quest. Twelve loyal friends discover the horrific truth about their world's ancient past. With the enemy pursuing their token force of intrepid adventurers, they must face dark sorcerers, evil necromancers, the undead, and the brutal malice of a Black Dragon. These stalwart heroes are locked in a race against time. The prize is nothing less than the hope of victory over ancient evil, which threatens to destroy their world.

"This book speaks to anyone with a neurodivergent brain, that may feel like an alien here on earth. I swear Browning made me laugh and cry and question reality...sometimes all in the same sentence." -JD Todd, author The universe is a very strange place. It will take even stranger heroes to save it. Potto is dim-witted, extremely forgetful and incredibly naïve. He wasn't always this way. Aye-Aye is devilishly shrewd and has boozed his way into a comfortable existence of incompetence and sleaze. How they ended up being two of the most wanted aliens in the galaxy is anyone's guess. Chased down by every oddball bounty hunter in the known universe, and befriended by a libidinous assassin, a fire-breathing reptilian, and a telepathic tree, their misadventures take them past Earth (the mall planet), to a floating sex circus, a planet of killer stuffed animals, an underground spaceship impound lot, and to a planet of reasonably priced bungalows. All while flying around in a ship powered by the brain waves of a psycho killer. A great prophecy proclaims that only "one of light, and one of dark" can save the universe from the dictatorship of The Node. That can't be Potto and Aye...Potto doesn't know what the word prophecy means, and neither know how to spell it. Part sci-fi epic, part absurd dark comedy, I Don't Seem So Bright in a Well-Lit Room is a comment on human behavior, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. But way more fun than that sounds. So, do up your space seatbelts...it's going to be a bumpy ride. Despite the lack of potholes in space. (Sci-fi /Dark Humour/Absurd) *Completed! Enjoy!
