In world where soulmates are a thing, linked together by a simple string, a red string in fact, they symbolize love, romance, passion, and more. These string show who they will spend their life's with. when the string turns black, it means your soulmate has passed before you met them, but if you have met them, you will die along side them, that means the string will glow and turn white symbolizing that you've lived a happy life.
