Set in a medieval era with tournaments, gladiators, and kings; Lena Luthor is the Crown Princess of a small kingdom and the heir to her brother Lex Luthor. He has been a tyrant to their people since he rose to power in the wake of his their father's suspicious death. Lex drags Lena to the despised gladiators despite her hatred of the events to announce that he will be purchasing one of the female fighters as a bodyguard and possibly for him to use to spy on his sister. Kara Danvers has been put through the ringer, and she expects nothing much out of life though she does her best to look on the bright side of things. She is one of the best fighters out there, but she doesn't much appreciate being singled out as a favorite of the king. The princess though... she might not be that bad.

This takes place after the end of Season 2. National City is still reeling from the Daxam invasion. A portal stands outside of the city proper, a chilling reminder of what befell them and what could happen again. Lena spends her days and nights at L-Corp trying to rebuild and working on a project she shares with no one. She avoids Kara, guilt heavy upon her shoulders for the part she played in placing trust in Rhea. This starts within a memory, within a dream, and reveals the hopes and dreams that make the child into the person they will one day be. There are no answers offered her, only questions. When an alien invasion leads the DEO to a small town in rural Nebraska, they learn that anyone not local will be killed on sight. That leaves Maggie to return to her hometown, Blue Springs, with her fiancée Alex to save the townsfolk before the Army launches a missile strike to destroy it. Maggie will have to deal with her family who is now taken over by plant aliens and welcome her home with open arms. Can she and Alex stop the invasion in time, and how will Maggie deal with the lie of her family that treats her like the one she always wishes she had?

This is a prequel to the first book in the Next of Kin series. If you have not read Next of Kin, do not read this. This includes spoilers for that series. This is meant to fill in some of the backstory for those who have already read the book.

This short piece takes place the morning after Next of Kin ends. Unlike the rest of the short pieces, it is not a prequel. This one is set in the current day and gives us a snippet of what's happening in modern times. #WattPride

Kalia gets called into work, and she's forced to take Lena with her putting the young Luthor into her first active Checkmate mission. This front seat view will show how Checkmate deals with rogue metahumans, bring Kalia and Lena closer together, and be a domino in a chain of events that will change Kalia forever.

A local museum hires El Mayarah, one of the nations foremost security firms, to test their security. As Kara reviews the museum's security measures, someone else pays the museum a visit. Crime ensues. I've got some ideas for a longer prequel (eventually) if folks like this. Let me know.

The latest Checkmate emergency is all hands on deck bringing the black and white sides of the boards together. Lena finds an old friend turned new ally, but teamwork might be asking too much of a group who's this politically divided. Who will pay the price of that divide?
