Jourdan Mathews has a secret, and she knows she needs to take this one to the grave. * * * Her life was never complicated: a college student with a close family, good friends, and a plan for her future as a doctor. Had that night had never happened, she might even have been called ordinary. But we're not made by ordinary moments. Now in her senior year, Jourdan is in freefall after a catalyzing summer that turned everything upside-down. Her friends know she's in trouble, and her parents hope they've done enough to save her, but Jourdan doesn't feel anything anymore. They say moving on happens slowly, but something needs to change fast before life moves on without her. Ryder Harris considers his life to be the farthest thing from "ordinary." He isn't just the kind-of-good basketball player that made him popular in high school. He is the kind-of-great that comes along once in a generation, a fact that has propelled him on a course which only attempts to reach for the stars. If you ask him, this isn't luck or special talent. No, Ryder Harris makes a point to focus himself, to remain undistracted. He's got priorities, and at the very top of his list is being drafted into the NBA. That dream is very close to becoming a reality his senior year, so close he can almost taste it. But the universe has a nasty habit of giving us what we need, not what we want. * * * part I - Jourdan & Ryder * * * Every Saint Needs a Sinner. Copyright. © May 2022. All Rights Reserved.

"The worst part of this whole situation was that he was attractive now. He'd been cute in high school. I remembered, because my eyes had lingered on him the longest of the four boys. He had bright green eyes, a smattering of freckles, and dark, wavy hair. Those things hadn't changed. What had changed is that he'd come into his body, and he was now filled out quite nicely. A little gawky looking then, now I could see the muscles in his arms, and he stretched the black shirt he was wearing in a perfect way. I hated that I thought he was hot enough to drool over. I wanted to slap some sense back into myself. " -Emma Shelby "I couldn't help but stare at her. I wasn't usually one for ogling women, and I had never thought that I had a type. But the instant that Emma had stepped into view, I knew my type was her. She had long, tan, muscular legs, emphasized by her fairly short shorts and booties. And then there were her shoulders. I had never seen someone with such beautiful shoulders. Well-defined, I could see the muscles shift every time she turned the car. All that was before I got to her face. Her face wasn't classically beautiful, but it was intense in a fierce sort of way. Something about her looked intelligent, and though I couldn't place it, I found myself drawn to it. I wanted to stop looking at her, but I really couldn't help myself. It might have been the four beers that were causing me to get borderline obsessive. " -Axel Clark ~~ They met once four years ago, their senior year in high school. That moment, although they barely knew each other, was the beginning of everything changing for each of them individually. Now, in their senior year of college, they are brought together again through a series of coincidences. Will they move on, or will they stay stuck in the past? They'll soon learn that in soccer, photography, life, and love, your perfect shot is always only one shot away.

"'Bye.' I say after Edwin's kiss. He gives me a small smile that honestly looks more like a grimace. It makes me a little uncomfortable having him kiss me in the library. Edwin walks away, and someone standing in the corner of my vision makes me turn in my seat. A tall, muscular man is standing there, his arms crossed, staring at me. He's got dark brown hair, perfect eyebrows, and soft brown eyes. Honestly, he's gorgeous. And since I've read, and edited, about five articles about him, I recognize him immediately. Dane Sawyer. He's the best pitcher on our baseball team. He's hoping to go pro, although I'm not totally sure what the process is surrounding that, since I don't retain much of the information from the articles that I read about him. I know that he's also a junior, and that his girlfriend is hot as fuck. I've seen them together on campus. They're hard to miss because they are easily one of the most attractive couples that I've ever seen. I'm convinced that I must be hallucinating, because he makes eye contact and walks towards me. 'That was awkward.'" ~~~ Junior year is starting off chaotic for Mackenzie Brooks as she steps into her role as the editor-in-chief of the college's newspaper. She's smart, focused on school, the paper, and her TA responsibilities. Junior year should be starting off easy for Dane Sawyer. He's the star pitcher of the baseball team; attractive, athletic, desirable, with a hot girlfriend. Unfortunately, he's also failing computer science which is the one thing he sees that is in the way of his pro career. Different in more ways that one, when the two run into each other in the library, it's an immediate disaster. But when Dane convinces Mackenzie to be his tutor, both of their lives begin to change.
