Chapter One of a story I started. I'm only posting chapter one to get some feedback so I can see what works and what doesn't. It was a normal assignment: "parent" an egg for two weeks to learn about responsibility. For Kyle, however, the end of the assignment brings about a whole new beginning.

"This is your legacy, Damian. The legacy you inherit." "As the next Phoenix." These words sparked a shift in my life as an Irish teenager. I went from the unknown guy at the back of the classroom, chased by bullies and dumbstruck by love, to the only hope for a nation I've never heard of. To top it off, everyone around me moves for a different reason. And I can't tell whether it is to kill me or not. What can I say ? When life gets like that, you must fight to reclaim your birthright.

A mysterious figure from the past just got his memories back - everything that was important to him and everything that should have stayed forgotten. Now he's tearing through the magical underworld like a storm in the pursuit of a singular goal: revenge. My entry for the Open Novella Contest II.
