A Bughead one-shot based on a deleted scene from 1x13.

Riverdale is being sparked back into spotlight as USA's killer capital, after being hidden in the shadows of peace for almost a decade. FBI has decided to send Jughead Jones, a successful FBI agent, to his hometown to investigate and check these brutal murders off their list. Upon his arrival, he has a run in with his twin flame from the past, Betty Cooper, the best-selling crime-novelist, who was visiting Riverdale for a brief period of time. A deal is made. Betty helps him investigate, Jughead helps her with her book. Jughead was desperate for answer, so he could return back to his loving girlfriend in New York and his own home, but when he gets all the answer, his reaction is vastly opposite.

Betty Cooper has been working The New York Times for years, but it had taken all that time to finally get her own formal interview she carry's out on her own. Nerves somehow don't get the best of her and she is soon sitting on Jughead Jones, professional baseball player for the New York Yankees, asking him questions she didn't even understand. From that day on, there's an on-going something between them that neither are sure how to pinpoint or name. Everyone around them sees it too, causing tension in some areas and worsening tension in others. They work through it and ignore these odd feelings until things begin to burst and everything feels as if it's going wrong. Can their friendship survive that? Or will it cause something drastic to happen that changes the course of both of their lives?

TRIGGER WARNING: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH Jughead: Loser, loner, freak. He's used to the names, he brought them onto himself. Part of him always considered changing, make new names for himself, but he would never get the chance. Not when he finds out what's been haunting him for the past month. So how do you reinvent yourself when your time left is minimal? Betty: Everyone's best friend, sun, perfect. The outside her was great, inside her had too many conflicts for her brain to process. Her best friends weren't really her friends, and it took her too long to realize the fact. They didn't care for her and had only hung around her because she hid the scent of how evil and disgusting they really were. Jughead needs to change himself. Betty needs to fix past mistakes. The two old friends reconcile, but not after she pushes him to the point where he can't say no. It's not always easy and most of the time, they want to give up. They want to go home and forget things that happened. But they don't. They don't stop and as Jughead ails, the relationship between the two of them becomes stronger than ever. A dangerous game, really, but neither want to stop playing.

NO LONGER UPDATING Excerpt: "Oh, that's not what Betty tells me when she calls after one of your guy's "going out together". She calls it dates, right Betty?" Veronica says, clearly wanting to help her friend out. Betty widens her eyes and shakes her head slightly. Jughead grabs her hand underneath the table. Cheryl notices this, as she's been sitting on top of one of the seats and she gasps.
