But Harley is classified as a Mediocre magical, meaning that she doesn't have enough power to do any of the stronger spells that Alex herself has begun to learn or maybe has already mastered. She's a 19 year old with no Esprit, who has known about the many magical abilities of hers since she was 10. It is rare for a magical to not have an Esprit for longer then 5 - 10 years, but in that timeframe, Alex has supreme self control, which may just help her survive this, even without an object of soul.
