The civil war is over. The Kingsblood has come of age. The noble youth are called to paradise. On a cold winter day, Stelluna opens the same letter that 300 other young ladies of noble blood have received, inviting them to the Eisenberg Palace in the brand new capital city on the island of Mort-Reve. Invited is not quite the word for it. They will each be escorted by a proper chaperone and trained in the art of statecraft, and at the end of it all, one of them will be bound to the Kingsblood, heir to the throne, in matrimony. It will be the biggest Choosing in centuries, maybe the most impressive ever held. Because this has almost nothing to do with a prince finding true love. This is yet another way for the Eisenberg administration to re-establish dominance over the crushed rebels of its empire, to remind those traitors who waged civil war against the monarchy which side came out the victor.
