After an enchanted artifact lures Kara Walker three thousand years back in time, she finds herself in the perilous world of ancient Egypt, an era when everyone fears-and reveres-the might of King Ahmose II, divine law of the land. No one is exempt from Pharaoh's decree and when she is mistakenly accused of looting sacred royal tombs, she has a choice: flee for her life or face Pharaoh's wrath. Her otherworldly appearance makes it impossible to find safe harbor in the dangerous city of Thebes, and Ahmose soon becomes her only salvation. When his life is threatened by an assassin, the eccentric bond between them could change Kara's mind about returning home. Fantasy - Highest ranking #80 Copyright (c) Olivia Fallyn. If she was honest she had always known there wasn't going to be any happily ever after. She had known it from the very beginning. And still, somewhere deep inside, she had harboured the hope that even in darkness there might exist happiness. Lasting happiness. But darkness is consuming. Darkness is inexorable. And darkness is lasting. Everlasting. *********** This is the sequel to my stories "Poison" and "Perception". Even though it is not necessary to read these first, it is probably useful to know their content :) So please feel invited to have a look at Poison and Perception, if you haven't read them yet!

He had achieved almost everything he had wanted. He had power and he was immortal. And yet, there were a few things he hadn't achieved. He had not been able to get rid of his fear of defeat. And he had not been able to forget what had happened that fateful night fifteen years ago. If you asked him whether he has rued what happened that night, he would tell you that there's no room for repentance or contrition where there's not even a conscience. Yet he would tell you that although he felt no remorse that did not mean he did not regret. Sometimes you only know what you've had when you lose it. Sometimes it needs loss to inspire perception. Sometimes you need a second chance. And sometimes you get it. ********** This is the sequel to my story "Poison", and I guess it's necessary to have read "Poison" for "Perception" to make sense, so please feel invited to read "Poison" first if you haven't done so yet ;-)

Everything about him was poisonous, his looks, his power and, most of all, his magic. And yet, she knew she would never want him to change, because, for her, he was perfect just the way he was, with this emotionless, dangerous, intoxicating way of doing magic. If you had asked her whether this was a love story she would have told you that she knew he wasn't capable of loving and he knew she wasn't going to try and change him. And yet, if you had asked her whether this was a love story she would have told you that the answer depends on what you expect. She knew that he couldn't love, she accepted that he didn't care, but she would die to make him understand.
