Ela estava na dobra quando tudo aconteceu e viu com seus próprios olhos os planos dele começarem a ser realizados. Alina se livrou de seu controle, impedindo a destruição do mundo, mas infelizmente não antes da sombra ter avançado e matado muitos morados próximos - inclusive, seus pais. Para a garota tudo aquilo era uma grande decepção, ela confiava e admirava Darkling e não esperava em momento algum que ele quisesse usar a dobra das sombras como uma arma, mas aconteceu. Lis não era uma pessoa particularmente vingativa, mas quando seus pais morrem na dobra das sombras e seu país é quase desmantelado por conta da ganância por poder é meio difícil não pensar em vingança. A grisha se sentia completamente enganada, mas só havia um modo de conseguir justiça: fingir que estava do lado de Darkling e esperar a hora certa para tira-lo do poder. Não era uma tarefa fácil, mas com a oportunidade e aliados adequados ela conseguiria. Quando Darkling deu a oferta de continuar ao lado dele para encontrar Alina, Lis aceitou. E neste instante o planejamento para o fim de Darkling e para a salvação de Ravka se iniciou. Ela só tinha uma missão: convencer Alina a vencer seus medos e lutar em busca do fim dessa guerra, para o bem do país e do povo, e por mais egoísta que pudesse parecer, para si própria.
