Strange things, dreams. How much credence should we give to where our subconscious takes us? There are many things Draco did not need in his Sixth Year. He did not need Theodore Nott implanting strange dreams in his head, for one. In the ensuing years, he did not need to constantly remember that blissful, impossible dream. He further did not need Potter bursting into his mostly turned-around life to embroil him in a conspiracy at Azkaban. And he definitely did not need to embark on a clandestine investigation into prisoner mistreatment with Hermione Granger.

During the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry Potter walked into the forbidden forest, died, and walked out with crimson eyes as the new vessel of the Dark Lord. Since then, Hermione Granger served as an elite member of the True Order, isolating herself from other Order members and going on missions alone, not only haunted by the loss of her best friend, Harry, but Ron who had run away after the battle. Three and a half years later, Draco Malfoy shows up with his two year old son on the Order's doorstep seeking to switch sides. Together, Draco and Hermione are forced to deal with not only each other, but their own past and confront who they've become because of the war. Hermione felt the pounding in her ears again. She would see him for the first time since the Great Hall, gaunt and stricken at the Slytherin table with his mother clutching his arm. She hadn't meant to look for him. Not in the corridors, not beneath the white sheets of the fallen, not on the way to the Chamber of Secrets with Ron, but she was a stupid girl.

"I know you're skirting around the subject again, Draco, so you might as well just say what you want to say." He looked up at me then, a barely readable expression on his face. My chest tightened slightly as he just watched me, his eyes tracing over my face. After a few silent minutes, he finally straightened up in his chair and tossed the Prophet into the chair next to him before looking back at me. "Weasley is an idiot." It's 2002, four years after Hermione graduated from Hogwarts. In the midst of planning her wedding to Ron, her life turns upside down by news that breaks her heart, and when a certain blond wizard shows back up in her life, she realizes that maybe what she planned for isn't what she truly wants.
