Chapter One of a story I started. I'm only posting chapter one to get some feedback so I can see what works and what doesn't. It was a normal assignment: "parent" an egg for two weeks to learn about responsibility. For Kyle, however, the end of the assignment brings about a whole new beginning.

I promise you, there is light in this dark world, if only you know where to look. My tale is one of magic and wonder, of evil and justice-of power and servitude. But it is also a story of sacrifice and suffering. There are great feats of courage and and malicious acts of deception. Now add a group of crazy mask-wearing, weapon-wielding, maniacs to the ever growing list of reasons why Gemma hated riding the subway.
