(A Merlin Fanfiction) Merlin and the knights were gathered around a campfire during a patrol, a simple bragging contest turns into something much deeper when the knights see Merlin's scars. They find out startling truths about their young friend.

The young Prince felt the nausea from the previous night return as he was situated behind the executioner's stage, a pyre set with a stake in the centre. He tried his very best not to remember that Merlin would be mounted upon that very stake in moments, a fire ablaze beneath him...

"Arthur, I... I'm here. Don't worry you'll be alright. I promise." Merlin made Arthur drink the potion and he swallowed powerless. "Merlin.. I... feel sick... my mind is burning... all my body is burning..." He was suffering and Merlin felt sorry for him. "You can't think straight... Arthur please listen to me.. You'll get better. This high fever is only temporary. You' ll be fine.. I know it hurts now but" before he could finish the sentence, Arthur grabbed his face with all his remaining power. "Merlin there's something I want to say..."

Merlin is injured unknowingly to the others during training and then is later shot by vengeful bandits on a hunt. Arthur is forced to take his shirt off to treat the wound but when Merlin wakes he's pelted by questions because of the scars. Friendship. Whump. Scar reveal fic. Reveal fic. In an AU LGBTQ+ accepting Camelot, anybody can love anybody. King Arthur throws a Ball to try and find a romantic companion among his kingdom to make his Queen or King Consort. His manservant Merlin is overrun with chores, but finds a way to attend, though he's too embarrassed to go as himself.
