We live in a world where no one dies. It’s not that people can’t die--it’s just that, given the immense amounts of love all around, everyone happy with their soul mates, no one ever does. Given the extensive research done on how lobsters can live forever if undisturbed by life threatening forces, humans have been able to alter the genes of people and now we all only age to 25.
Science has even taken into account the issues of finding a “soul mate”. At the birth of a baby, tests are run and personalities, hormones, and lives are predicted and from there, until the person reaches 25, recorded. Each individual isn’t allowed to meet--or know who is--their soul mate, however. The time you spend aging with your loving family prepares you for your soul mate. At the week of your twenty-fifth birthday you are sent to a camp in an undisclosed location. Everyone there turns 25 within that week. You all meet one another, talk about yourselves, get some shots and you drink this clear liquid, and then--on the day of your birthday--you find out who you are meant to spend the rest of your life with. If the person has not turned of age yet, you are sent to live in an undisclosed location outside of the previous camp awaiting your partner’s birthday.
You go on to live your life, maybe find a career, maybe have children, but most of all: love your partner. You live 25 extra years with this individual on the starter world, or Initium, Latin for “start”. Each person spends up to 50 years on each world until they get to...Paradise. The last world. There you live forever with the love of your life in a perfect world. Paradise: where you’re born longing to go…
But what if you don’t? You can’t stop the sequence. 50 years are almost up so you have to leave...But you don’t want to...
