(Completed) Just then - as if Xavier had sensed the judge's previous thoughts - he burst in the room, his hands tightly grasping on a gasping Annie. He yelled: "THE BOOK! TRAVIS WAS MURDERED JUST LIKE IT WAS IN 'CRIMINAL'! AND ARDEN AND ANNIE WERE RECITING LINES FROM IT--" *** New York has been caught up in yet another murder-mystery. Author Travis Cliff has been murdered. Like any other case, this, too, should've been just another case of the killer and the victim. Except Travis himself was a sinner, hands covered in blood of the innocent civilians of the community he resided in; and finally, he had been struck down. Not a single report had ever been sent to the Murder Investigation department - rather, not a single report had ever reached the department. When things go further awry, involving a replication of Travis' last book, Xavier - the detective - and James - the judge - seem to have a lot to uncover about the incident... *** Written for the Short Dreams Contest 2021 hosted by @TeamOfDreams Prompts used: #23 - Someone has killed a murder-mystery bestselling author... in the exact same way as their last book. But, is the plot twist true, too?

The darkest hour is incorrectly referenced as being an hour, or sixty minutes long, when in fact the majority of people would agree the darkest hour often references a great chunk of time. My darkest hour began with the first kill in a chain of serial murders. This isn't just any murder story, there is no "final girl" emerging from the fire and blood the killer left in his wake. the past, no matter how hard we try running always comes back to teach us its lessons. I've tried for many years forgetting the blood soaked pavement under the carved bodies of the people I loved. I think about the friends I lost. And how the killer is still out there. As the end approaches I fear that I'll never get the time to tell my story. With death itself breathing down my neck Ill start from the beginning...At the first incident. **** WARNING**** This book contains chapters that younger readers and people who struggle with mental health may find disturbing or triggering. This includes things like written talks about depression and suicide. It is never my intention to make people feel worse and if you are struggling to find resources please reach out or contact the national helpline at (810-662-4357)
