Once upon a time, men and women entered marriage with very clear policies regarding the division of labour: he would go to work and "bring home the bacon," while she would stay at home and cook, clean, and raise the children. Things aren't the same as they used to be. Modern Indian romance, intimacies, and marriages are far more complicated than assessments and reality television shows portray. In India, arranged marriages are an unique and complex process. People seek a 'soulmate' with whom they can spend the rest of their lives, but they also have specific expectations of the potential bride or groom. There is a strong narrative about finding love, compatibility, and connection, but what stands out is a real intent to replicate class identities beneath all of this. In a country that depends on a spending population, "middle class" is a necessary armour, a shared language, a value system, and, more importantly, a way of life. Life may be unjust, irritating, and disarmingly disappointing on most days. Being middle class, on the other hand, creates character in a culture obsessed with the need to be a part of the rat race. Marriage also places the onus of making sacrifices, concessions, and making the marriage work on the couple. This tale illuminates the unseen and underappreciated aspects of an Indian arranged marriage, the life of a middle-class wife and husband and their shared responsibilities as they navigate through life. Immense amount of desi tadka awaiting your way. *I don't own the illustration on the poster.*

***Sequel to Broken Jewel*** Read Broken Jewel if you want to know more about this story! ---------------------------- "So, Ms Sonakshi Agarwal, do you agree to the demands and conditions of Mr Dev Sharma?" the judge's voice was a powerful blow to her entire confidence. "N..No" she whispered, still looking at the ground in a daze. She felt the tremors running through her body while she spoke. "What do you mean by no?" the opposition lawyer asked in a disgusted tone. "I am sorry your excellency, but I am sick of her behaviour now. She not only tried to end her life, but also risk the life of my child. Hiding her identity and separating my own child is not acceptable. I will no longer tolerate such attitudes and tantrums. So, I would politely like to request to hold the full custody of my child once he or she is born." Dev's voice cut daggers in her heart. "NOO! I don't agree with that.... You can't do this to me." Her voice stammered as she wiped her tears away and looked around devastatingly. "You can't take my child away from me..... it's mine..... I am the mother of this child..... It's all I have.....I can't...d-do this..." she shook her head negatively while the judge took off her glasses and sighed tiredly. "I am sorry Ms Sonakshi..... This time, I am afraid that the law isn't under your favour. The child will lawfully be given to Dev Sharma due to your misconduct and unstable mindset at this moment. However, you may always appeal again in future if you feel that your situation is better" "But Mam.... I can't-" "Sorry Ms Sonakshi! It's too late" "Dev......please..." "I am sorry Sona. You asked for this." His heartless voice was the last thing she heard before she lost conscious infront of the whole crowd. ----------------- Be prepared for to heal yourself in this heartbreaking journey!
