In a world where all magic is outlawed, finding a magic user is a hard thing to do. Being one is so much harder, with authorities who would hunt you down untill they kill you and no-one you can trust, how could a magic user hope to survive? Hermitcraft is a hidden safe-space, where magic users can hide from the authorities, the outside world, in a family of other magic users, but it's impossible to find without being brought there, so many magic users could never hope for salvation, since they don't know it exists. The nether portal size limit decided to become non-existent and instead take Grian from one server to another rather than the nether- where he wanted to be. (I remember watching the episode when it came out and how Grian found out there was a nether portal size limit. He had ended up putting a line of obsidian through the center of the archway, but here- the portal decides otherwise and brings him into an entirely different server, luckily he has some of his materials.)
