It's not easy to work your way to the top in a competitive sport that relies on height and strength, especially when you're neither of those. Swearing to a loved that you'd make it there just he once did was what kept Hikaru playing even through his mother's 'interesting' use of words. He was almost there at 16 years old but the unfortunate happens ending in the teen to leave England and reside in Japan where he meets some unlikely friends while continuing his pursuit.
