Wei WuXian was the secret of the Jiang sect. Not many knew of him, and everyone was warned against going towards the house on the river. All who tried were punished, severely. When the Lan Clan comes to investigate rumors of mistreatment of the Jiang clan, they were about to leave, having found nothing, when Lan Xichen stops them, suddenly, and orders them to cross the river. Panicked, Jiang Cheng and Madam Yu attack them, which only serves to raise their suspicion more. What they find will change the Jiang and Lan clan forever.

Lan Zhan realized this when he had grabbed Wei Wuxian to keep him from storming out of a room, and instead of fighting him off as he did with everyone else, he calmed. Unnerved by the drastic change in personality, and, though unwilling to admit it, worried for the slightly younger boy, Lan Zhan gets his father and brother to convince the Jiang clan to let them take Wei Wuxian back to the Cloud Recesses, under the pretence of having him attend more training, as an official Disciple in a few more months. The Jiang clan eagerly agreed, as such an opportunity was ra early given. Lan Zhan soon realizes, however, that Wei Wuxie went through far more than he was telling anyone, and that, just perhaps, Lan Zhan may be beginning to feel attracted to the boy. He wants to help him, and both boys find the road to love is not always straightforward as it seems.
