A month of Troyler ficlets. How many ways can one couple fall in love? (And how long till you grow sick of reading about it)

That teacher that everyone thinks is a little weird but who teaches really well: he could be one of them. The nice lady at check-out in the supermarket who's line moves faster than all the others: she could be one of them. That doctor that somehow manages to save even the most hopeless patients: he's probably one of them. It's a world where some people are a bit different than most others. Or completely different in fact, the main difference being that those people... aren't people. They are dragons. Shape-shifters, to be exact: humans with the ability to turn into dragons, adopting their form and nature for as long as they please. It's a fact unknown to most, even though there are quite a lot of them living among those so-called normal humans. Fearing being discovered, locked up in labs for studies or being used for petty war projects, the dragons hide their existance and those among them who aren't able to hide yet: namely, their young. Troye Sivan Mellet is one of those young dragons. Born the son of a dragon mother and human father, he grew up knowing everything about the existence and nature of dragons. Eventually, shortly after his 20th birthday, he'd "hatched" into a dragon himself for the first time and was sent to one of the (among dragons) most famous schools: The Nest of Seoay, in the wild sea somewhere north of Scotland. Among many others, he meets Tyler Oakley there; a grumpy, bad tempered fellow student who should have been out of there over a year ago, but apparently isn't allowed to leave. A twist of fate (or the twisted sense of humour of their principal) forces them to work closer together than either of them appreciates... At least until they discover the benefits of that forced relationship, that ends up being put to an ultimate test in which not only their own lives depend on it, but possibly the fate of the entire world...

Set in Autumn 2016. Troye has a year-long working visa allowing him to live in America with Tyler. The issue of Troye's fast-expiring visa has the two men remembering the development of their relationship, and with their memories come several thoughts to consider. At the age of 16 we got this crazy idea to take a road trip around the United States once we had both turned 21. What if you could hear them? The thoughts they deigned not reasonable enough to say out loud, the things not suitable for even a giggly teenage gossip conversation. Would it be a blessing or a curse? Troye, the unlucky teenager bestowed with this 'gift', thinks of it as a curse, with good reason. Do you know how hard it is to keep a relationship with someone when you know exactly what they think of you? Impossible. It's impossible. Or at least that's what Troye thinks, considering he's given up on even trying to make it work. He's different, people shun different. People hate different. And it's better to go under the radar, to be nothing, than to be hated. Right? Tyler, on the other hand, has taken a different approach to a similar problem. No, he can't 'read minds', but he does have a part of himself he doesn't want a soul to know about. He's quarterback, every girl's dream guy, an academic mastermind, and he's also gay. He's seen how different kids get treated, hell, he's been the one to treat them that way before. Why on Earth would he ever wish that on himself? No, it's easier to hide, to be someone you're not, than to be hated. Right?

AU: in which Tyler and Troye are as different as can be, but somehow fit together like two parts of a whole. Their lives come together with a tad bit of scheming on Tyler's part, and more than a tad bit of flirting on Troye's. Eventually, they coalesce into an inseparable unit--and you know what they say about friends who can't stay apart.
