Maya Hart was adopted by Cory and Topanga Matthews awhile ago. She has a younger brother, Auggie, who is the Matthews' biological son. Maya still thinks deeply about her mother and father and their "falling out". They constantly argued and divorced, ending up putting Maya up for adoption. Maya has a best friend named Smackle. Smackle has Asperger's Syndrome causing her to not comprehend and express her emotions. They have another friend named Farkle. When a new school year comes around, Maya is faced with her dad being her teacher, a crush, and more teenage struggles helping her meet the world.

Things never seem to go smoothly for Evin. Each day presents a new challenge for them, sometimes more difficult than others. Despite all this, they power through life their way and they won't stop at anything until they achieve their goals, or justice is served for those affected by troubled times.
