Danielle (Dani) Perry is a lesbian and has struggled with an eating disorder, depression and self-harm for a year. Her best friend, Alyson, knows about it and tries to help her stop but nothing ever helps. She was on a first-class flight to go to Disneyland for a senior trip with some other kids from her writing class and was really excited because her idol, Demi Lovato, was co-hosting The View that week. When Dani got on the plane, she was prepared to sleep through the whole flight until Demi Lovato actually ends up on the same flight and occupies the seat next to her.

Now that her world tour is over, 25 year old Demi Lovato is finally taking some time for herself, trying to figure things out. She's been clean and sober for a while, her music is taking off, she has an album coming out in the fall, her relationship with Nick Jonas is flourishing, what more could she want? That's what she's been wondering, too. Because, as happy as she is, she feels like something is missing. She feels incredibly guilty and selfish because seemingly she has everything, so how could she still feel so incomplete? After numerous therapy appointments, self-help books and sleepless nights, it was one fateful day spent at her friend's house when she realized what would truly make her happy. At school she continues to get bullied by kids, they mock her slow learning abilities. Nearly everyday she's in trouble, teachers have done everything they can to change her behavior, nothing works. When a horrible accident happens to her best friend Noël, Olivia promises her that she will go to the X-Factor USA and do her best to win the one million dollar recording contract.
