Ya Baba... It's funny that I'm writing to you. I don't even know why; you can't read this. You don't even know I'm writing this; maybe it's because of what you said the day you gave me this book. Do you remember? You said that words travel a long way, so I guess I'm hoping my words will reach you wherever you are. So brace yourself and listen, because I have a lot to tell you. ***** Starting over in a new country wasn't on Zahra Ibrahim's bingo card. But after her father's death, she finds herself moving across the globe from Egypt to Canada. As if that wasn't enough, she finds out she'll be the only hijabi at her new school. The spotlight is on Zahra as she navigates and adjusts to her new environment. From dodging bullies to worrying about her twin brother's strange behavior, every day is eventful. Then she meets Hassan Abdullah, the volleyball player with soft words and a warm smile. What starts as an unexpected friendship turns into something more, something deeper and precious. As her feelings grow and tensions rise; at home and in school, Zahra must decide if holding onto their relationship is worth it, without compromising her faith and beliefs. And through it all, Zahra keeps her father close to her heart, writing letters to him. Sharing snippets about her days with him, even if he can't read them, helps on the heavy days. And between telling him about the chaos of high school and the boy who makes her heart flutter, she begins to find her own way.

[Highest ranking: #1 in Spiritual on 15/8/18] ••• • In which a girl saved a boy's life in the most unexpected of circumstances • She drank water. He drank alcohol. She had a family who'd take a bullet for her. He had a family who'd throw him under the bus. She dreamt of her future. He dreamt of his death. Both are Muslims but only one is closer to their Lord. ••• *NOT CLICHÉ* This story in no way depicts the true Muslim culture. It's about the modern Muslims nowadays who steer away from the right path. This book contains some strong language, graphic content and violence so I advise you to read it with care. "So this was all just a game to you . . .this whole time, you pretended to like me in order to humiliate me in front of the entire school?" An air of melancholia surrounded me, eyes watery like never before. "Were your feelings for me ever real?" There wasn't even a trace of an apologetic expression on his features as he tucked his hands in his pockets, before he gave a nonchalant shrug. The sudden urge for revenge became a prominent priority. He regarded me passively. "It's not my fault that you fell for me in the first place." he justified as he advanced my way, closing the gap between us. Unstably, I strode backwards on the concrete. ". . .stay back." I whimpered. "You're nothing but cold hearted." ·•● Two years ago, Emery Roy was tragically exposed to what some could call an intense betrayal all thanks to the originator - Dean Darnell. Everything went downward spiral after they started dating. What appeared to be a match-made in heaven, turned from blissful to disastrous the moment Dean humiliated Emery in front of the entire school, leaving her completely heartbroken. So to avoid him at all cost, she did what any person would do: transfer school. Fast forward two years later. What happens when she's returning back to Roosevelt High, for the first time during senior year? She only has a few tasks: avoid Dean and face her obstacles. The only question is will she succeed or will she get fooled again? Nighttime reminds us of.... the voices in our head when they get loud, the sadness in our hearts when no one listens, the peace we find only to crumble, the people we know, only that they never want us to achieve, the emptiness of our souls that darken our eyes
