Lagos, Nigeria - 3:27 a.m. The rain fell like whispers of the dead. Soft, but constant. Like the past, refusing to be buried. Zainab Olawale stood alone under a flickering streetlight in Makoko, holding a weathered Bible that didn't belong to her. She hadn't come for God. She came for a name. For the truth. Inside the Bible was a note, its ink smudged by time and fear: "If I disappear, Dimeji Koleosho is responsible. The money from the offshore account is blood money. - F.O." Her hands trembled. Not from the cold. Not even from fear. But from recognition. That name - Dimeji Koleosho - wasn't just a senator. He was a king in the shadows. The man whose decisions built empires, buried secrets, and once... destroyed her father. Her mind raced. How many journalists had tried to expose him? How many were now bones beneath Lagos bridges? This wasn't a story. It was a war. And she had just chosen to fight.

WATTYS WINNER 2020 Two interconnected murders, 64 years apart. One woman's search for truth and identity. Readers' comments: 'a masterpiece', 'impeccably written', 'amazing', 'superbly crafted page-turner', 'hauntingly beautiful', 'tremendous plot and character development', 'one of a kind', 'fantastic story telling', 'loved this book', 'a wonderful read", 'absolutely beautiful', 'brought tears to my eyes' and many more Wattys judging panel: 'This is VERY good. We were HOOKED from the beginning, and the writing and plot hold up throughout. This is a very unique, polished, well-written and well-researched piece.' Plot Set partly in rural England, partly on the sun-kissed coast of southerm Italy, The Painted Altar is a murder mystery mixed with romantic and historical elements (World War Two). Given away at two days old, Mary Rice has spent her life in the shadows. When discovering the suspicious circumstances surrounding her biological mother's death, she embarks on a journey which will shine a light not only on the truth but also on her own identity. Brief extract Suddenly, the door had inched open, half a wrinkled face visible behind the tautened chain. "Hello. Who is it?" The words I was going to say had of course been well-rehearsed, repeated over and over in my mind like a mantra, but now that the moment had arrived I found myself struggling to remember them. "Mrs Harvey... I think that you might... well, that you might be..." The door closed, then slowly opened once more, the chain this time unlatched. And there she was before me - half a metre away, within arm's reach. Thin lips gradually crooking upwards at each corner like the slow beatific kindling of a summer's dawn. "Oh yes love, I know who you are." Length: 70,000 words About the author: Originally from England but for the last 16 years I've been living in Italy. I hope therefore that the Italian aspects of the novel will have a certain gloss of authenticity.

"Okay. What's your favourite food?" "It will be you after we get married, but for now It's anything you give me to eat." He deadpanned. Tseju almost choked on her own surprise. Sputter. More sputter. "Close your mouth shugah. I don't wanna share that space with flies." He said, the shadow of a mischievous smile playing at the ends of his lips. Tseju was still not talking, although she'd snapped her mouth shut now. "Next question?" She coughed. "Ahem. What's your favourite color?" "It was ice silver, now its the color of your skin." ________________________________________ Meet your Heroine, Tseju Anne Mobijilade, a not so typical but typical chubby curvy Nigerian melanin goddess who exchanged her heart of flesh for a heart of stone following her break up with long term boyfriend Benjamin Ayigbarin and now sees men as nothing but sex toys and external bank accounts. Especially Yoruba men. Meet your Hero, a beefy bald but beautiful Yoruba demon whose dimples set your ovaries on fire. Most eligible bachelor of the year, 3 years in a row Bayo Ayodeji Jacobs grew up watching his dad spoil his mom silly with love and has been looking for a woman to spoil silly with love. When their parts cross, Tseju finds herself falling hard and fast for a man who by every standard of the word resembles a First Class Yoruba demon. Will Bayo redeem Yoruba men everywhere? Or will he make the Yoruba Demon Association of Nigeria proud? I don't even need to say keep reading to find out, you're already reading!
