Standalone in the My Brother's Best Friend. SEASON COMPLETE: Enjoy 20% off when unlocking the full story. *** Twenty-two-year-old Everett Holden has always had his life figured out. However, when his best friend requests a favor, he finds himself sharing an apartment with the one girl he both loathes and desires above all else, the one girl he can't have. Emery Clark isn't one to give up. She's persevered through every obstacle life has thrown her and refuses to accept defeat. That is, until, she's given an eviction notice from her apartment and is forced to live with none other than Everett Holden, her ex's crotchety, grumpy best friend with an attitude licensed to kill. As she spends more time in his company, she gradually comes to a realization. Perhaps his rude behavior towards her isn't due to her allegedly taking away his closest friend, but rather because his closest friend snatched her away from him.

Fifteen-year-old Ainsley Myers doesn't look like someone who's afraid. She's quiet, loud when needed to be, flat, and sarcastic. The kind of girl who fills silence with humor and defiance, who keeps people laughing just far enough away that they never get too close. Where her twin sister Athena learned to move gently through the world, Ainsley learned to hit it first, using noise, wit, and distance as armor. Athena was protected. Ainsley was not. Athena grew up kind, soft-spoken, and trusting, never fully knowing the depth of what her sister endured, only sensing that something was wrong. Ainsley never told her. Not because she didn't love her, but because she didn't know how to explain it. Because the worst parts didn't feel explainable. Because silence felt safer than truth. When their current foster dad is arrested, everything they believe about their lives collapses. They weren't abandoned. They were stolen. Waiting for them is a family that never stopped searching: a father who left space at the table, brothers raised on stories and hope, and a home built on patience instead of punishment. For Athena, the return feels like a chance to finally breathe. For Ainsley, it feels like danger. Because sarcasm doesn't survive gentleness. Armor doesn't work in a house built on patience. And distance becomes impossible in a family that refuses to give up on you. As Athena begins to settle into safety, Ainsley resists closeness with jokes, walls, and emotional deflection. But the longer this family stays, the harder it becomes to pretend she doesn't care. The harder it becomes to keep fighting a world that no longer looks like a threat. Surrounded by people who don't demand, don't push, and don't leave, Ainsley must face the one truth she's spent her life outrunning: That maybe she doesn't have to be loud to be safe. That maybe she doesn't have to be sharp to survive. And that love doesn't have to hurt to be real.

Emory Hart is a simple woman. She loves her family, enjoys her trips to the book store and to the coffee shop and she can never turn down her best friend when it comes to random nights full of chaos. She's content. All it takes is one run in with the one person she never seemed to win over and a surprise visit from her brother to shift Emory's whole world on its axis. After two years of successfully avoiding him, Emory's "simple" and "content" are about to morph into something a bit more frustrating and confusing and it comes in the form of her brothers best friend. Adrian Harley is a man of control. He's easy going and has charmed his way into the hearts of the entire Hart family. Emory has always been his biggest challenge. It's not because he can't win her over with the same easy going routine he uses with everyone else. It is simply because he can't find himself wanting to. No, what Adrian seeks from Emory is something much more intense. Darker. It's only because of his relationship with her brother that he swallows all of those urges for the sake of his closest friend and his own sanity. When Adrian offers his guest room to his best friend, he comes face to face with the one thing he can't have and his self control begins to snap. Adrian finds himself crossing the one line that was silently drawn when befriending the Harts. The line that leads to the one woman he isn't allowed to want. He's unleashed. Obsessed even. And she thinks he hates her.

"'Bye.' I say after Edwin's kiss. He gives me a small smile that honestly looks more like a grimace. It makes me a little uncomfortable having him kiss me in the library. Edwin walks away, and someone standing in the corner of my vision makes me turn in my seat. A tall, muscular man is standing there, his arms crossed, staring at me. He's got dark brown hair, perfect eyebrows, and soft brown eyes. Honestly, he's gorgeous. And since I've read, and edited, about five articles about him, I recognize him immediately. Dane Sawyer. He's the best pitcher on our baseball team. He's hoping to go pro, although I'm not totally sure what the process is surrounding that, since I don't retain much of the information from the articles that I read about him. I know that he's also a junior, and that his girlfriend is hot as fuck. I've seen them together on campus. They're hard to miss because they are easily one of the most attractive couples that I've ever seen. I'm convinced that I must be hallucinating, because he makes eye contact and walks towards me. 'That was awkward.'" ~~~ Junior year is starting off chaotic for Mackenzie Brooks as she steps into her role as the editor-in-chief of the college's newspaper. She's smart, focused on school, the paper, and her TA responsibilities. Junior year should be starting off easy for Dane Sawyer. He's the star pitcher of the baseball team; attractive, athletic, desirable, with a hot girlfriend. Unfortunately, he's also failing computer science which is the one thing he sees that is in the way of his pro career. Different in more ways that one, when the two run into each other in the library, it's an immediate disaster. But when Dane convinces Mackenzie to be his tutor, both of their lives begin to change.
