Tine needs money. It's the 19hundreds, times are rough. He does what he has to do to survive.
Does he really need to con people and steal their money? No.
Is it way funner than working a normal job? Absolutely.
On one of his jobs, he goes to the novel debut party of one of the most famous writers in town (and probably nationwide) Sarawat. It goes well- he dresses fancy, shakes hands, slips off rings and bracelets and necklaces- until the next day.
The daily newspaper tells of last night's party and the murder that took place during it. It doesn't really concern Tine much, given he used a fake name and no one would be able to find him.
Or so he thought, until Sarawat came knocking at his door the next morning threatening to tell the police about his activities unless he helped him solve the murder he was being accused of.
