"I need you to be my fake girlfriend". He paused allowing me to process what he just said. I rubbed my eyes trying to see if I was in a dream. Nope real. "If I can make Hazel jealous, then she can get back with me." I swear he was dropped. Like down a flight of stairs. And I'm going to be the one who kicks this asshole down the stairs. Or maybe out the window. "W-what. That makes no type of sense." I stuttered out. I pushed myself off the bed and turned my body to face Hayden. "Yes. She's jealous of you. So if she sees I went to you, then she'll want to get back with me." He looked at me. "Please. Let's pretend that we're dating. Let's pretend that we like each in that kinda of way." I looked down at my feet. I wouldn't have to pretend. Astraea Grey has been bestfriends with Hayden Anderson since birth. Astraea even though she knew it was wrong, likes her bestfriend. Well, like will be an understatment. She was head over heels in love with her bestfriend. But he felt nothing more than a sister-friendship with her. So Astraea kept her mouth zipped and watched from the side lines as he used one girl after another. It wasnt till Hazel came along did he stop his 'player' days and actually fell in love with the red headed girl. Things are perfect in his world, until everything crashes down and the love of his life leaves him. Only wanting Hazel, he turns to his bestfriend Astraea to help him win back the girl he was so dearly in love with. It's an easy and simple task- Fake Date. Will Astraea be able to go along with pretending about something that's been true for her so long and prevent herself from falling farther into a hole she's been stuck in for awhile. Or will this little arrangement make Hayden come to his senses and see who Astraea really is to him-not just a bestfriend or even a sister, but something more. ❝Assallam alay-❞ Holy chicken. Hottie alert. Does my veil look sexy? The holy month of Ramadan; a month where Muslims are required to fast, abstain from sins, and connect spiritually with Allah. It's also the month where Paulina Suarez--the practicing, straightforward, biracial Muslimah--tries to avoid acting on her feelings for the goofy baker boy who has been assigned to make food for her break of fast for the next 30 days. 30 days. She just has to endure his heartwarming smiles, sense of humor, and amazing talent in the art of making samosas for 30 days without jumping his bones. ...And without killing that co-worker of his that's just trying to get to him before Ramadan is up. Yep...no pressure at all. *** a/n: so much fluff... you'd probably suffocate. THIS IS AN OLD DRAFT. Featured Under Editors' Picks, April 2021. He lit his cigarette, I lit nothing. He drank alcohol, I drank water. He smirked, I smiled. He didn't love me, I didn't love him. He and I together wouldn't last a day. And then the game started... He said he found me intriguing, unique, and interesting because I didn't swoon over him. "You and me Grey, let's play a game. We'll date and in three months time I promise you will fall for me. When you fall in love with me between that time span, I win. If in any way you were to win I'll give up all the alcohol, cigarettes, and player ways." It was a game I wasn't willing to lose, but all games had accidents and consequences. It takes a broken heart to know how to break a heart.

In small town Hendersonville, North Carolina, there's a time and a place for women to open their mouths. Lydia Grace Abney doesn't care to wait on that time or that place. She walks through life without any shoes on, dirt on her skin, and wind-blown hair. Some might say she gets her classless qualities from being raised with all boys. Others say the devil is doing work in her life and holding her tongue hostage. But Lydia doesn't see anything wrong with her inability to keep her mouth shut. Especially when it comes to the ever-growing racism flooding her small, southern town. She's willing to fight tooth and nail to stand up for what she believes is right-and this particular act catches the eye of someone rather unexpected.
