Katherine Ariana Johnson geht schon seit 5 Jahren auf die Hogwarts Schule für Hexerei und Zauberei und kommt nun in das 6. Schuljahr. Sie ist mit Harry Potter im Jahrgang und auch mit ihm und seinen Freunden gut befreundet, was auch bedeutet, dass sie Draco Malfoy aufs Übelste verabscheut. Als sie dieses Jahr dann auch noch mit ihm eine Facharbeit zusammen schreiben muss, ahnt sie nur böses. Jedoch merkt sie schnell, dass sich bei ihr Gefühle entwickeln, die sich nicht entwickeln sollten, zumindest nicht für Draco Malfoy! Und dann gibt es da auch noch Seamus Finnigan... Das Buch geht dann mit der Zeit vom 6. Schuljahr über ins 7. Ausserdem wird sie von Katherines und Dracos Perspektive geschrieben.
