[WRITTEN IN 2023] Jay Walker was living the dream; stuck in a low-wage job, cramped with his best friend and his dog in a small apartment. The only time he was really free was when strolling around the small park at the centre of the concrete jungle that was his neighborhood. Even then, he had things out of his reach; the lone girl, always sitting in the same spot, was someone he could only admire from afar. All it took was a miscalculated throw to let fate do its work. The past year has felt as though he was drifting in circles: on one hand, being stuck as a ghost in Ninjago was a torture he could hardly bear...but on the other hand, the thought of moving on to the Departed Realm (even though he probably deserves worse) is somehow equally torturous. He hates not being able to interact with anyone...but the thought of leaving his ̶f̶a̶m̶i̶l̶y̶ team is too much... Then, with the fabled Yin Eclipse looming on the horizon, evil strikes. As the ninja race against the clock to save Ninjago, Morro finds himself staring at a crossroads with barely any time to think. What will he do? Corrupted by the Devourer's venom, Wu has been scouring all of Ninjago for the golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Through his students, the masters of the four elements, he will have no trouble controlling their power. Now it's up to Nya and the rest of Garmadon's ninja team to retrieve the weapons first and stop her brother and his friends before it's too late. Dark Sides is a Role Reversal AU series in which Wu was bitten by the Great Devourer instead of Garmadon. Wu still ends up training Kai, Jay, Zane, and Cole as his students. In response, Sensei Garmadon trains Nya, Pixal, Seliel, and Skylor (all elemental masters), and both sides are pitted against each other.

In this alternate timeline, Garmadon was never bitten by the Great Devourer. But instead, his brother Master Wu, the King of the Underworld, is now devising a plan so he can wield the Weapons of Spinjitzu and rule over Ninjago. He needs the help of four young boys to retrieve the weapons for him. But first he must train them up and teach them his dark ways. (Cover image is my own)

The rope incinerated. Kai's weight dropped. Any strand of conscious thought that he'd had were gone in a flash as he fell. He felt his body ignite without his command - it must've been his core speaking, his heart. [After all, he'd always lived by emotion hadn't he?] His flames led him to Cole, just below him. Their bodies crashed together, and anyone watching from the Bounty rail would only see one thing. A flaming ball of pure fire being swallowed by darkness. In other words, my recreation of Season 10's heart-stopping Episode 3. Cole falls, but Kai falls with him, leading them on a desperate journey through the darkness - injuries and all - to find their family again.

The six ninja have settled down and started families, taking time off from fighting, but when evil arises, the children of Ninjago's protectors must take on their role.
