"My last breath will be your name, Emma." Buck breathed, before gently placing his lips on hers. On the surface, Emma Riley is a typical 32 year old workaholic. She is a medical doctor at Kindred Hospital in L.A. However, Emma works so much to keep the memory of what happened to her buried deep inside. She does not let her mind wonder to the patch of mountain where the wild red roses grow. The day started like any other Wednesday. That is until she runs into a handsome fire fighter crunched over in a quiet hall. Evan Buckley was there for his friend, Eddie. Eddie had been shot while on a call. Over the next few weeks, Emma and Buck bond. After Eddie's release, Buck can't shake the memory of Emma. Emma also felt a connection with Buck. However, in order to move on with her life, she must face the memories and reality of what happened to her.

If you asked Jack Abbot one year ago what he would have thought about having a child, he would've snorted and cursed you out. If he was being honest, he wasn't entirely sure what you were supposed to do with a kid. He could handle twelve-hour shifts, overcrowded waiting rooms, and patients hanging on by a thread. Children, though? Children were a different story. Which was ironic, considering there was currently an eight-year-old wandering around the hospital with his name.

Dr. Eleanor "Nell" Carver is one of the senior residents in Pittsburgh's busiest ER . Relentlessly capable, and far better at saving other people than taking care of herself. Between endless night shifts, traumatic cases, and the quiet exhaustion of her own treatment, Nell is trying to hold together a life that never seems to slow down long enough for her to breathe. The one constant in the chaos is Dr. Jack Abbot - the attending physician who knows exactly when to push, when to stay quiet, and when to simply stand beside her. Their relationship is steady, private in all the ways that matter, and built in the spaces between ambulance sirens. But while Nell spends her shifts fighting for strangers, the people closest to her are struggling too. Her younger sister, Lois - the hospital's head chef - is trying to keep everyone fed while pretending she doesn't need looking after herself. And Nell's best friend Frank Langdon, freshly separated and emotionally unravelling beneath it all, finds himself unexpectedly drawn toward Lois in the middle of the hospital chaos. "Then let's go right now. Wherever you want- I'll carry you wherever you want to go." - E. Buckley - Emile Sanna came from a large family. He grew up often helping his elders and the youth with whatever they needed. Whether it was escorting his Nonna to the shops, chaperoning his mother to one of her women groups, or acting as free childcare for his nieces and nephews, he did it all. After high-school, he found himself graduating university as a registered nurse. It was never a dream or a goal, in fact, he did it as if it was the most natural next step within his life. Caring for others was like second nature, it was as easy as breathing. And if you asked him about it, he would tell you exactly that. So why not make greater opportunities out of it? Emile believed he was born to be a nurse. That is how he carefully thought out the next steps of his life and landed himself a nice apartment next to his new job in a new city. Everything was going exactly as planned- until one reckless decision turned everything on its head. Now Emile would set everything ablaze just to keep the embers of his relationships smouldering. - *The beginning few cannon event orders have been modified for storyline purposes. The events should fall back into place shortly.

Russell Whitaker is one of many secrets in The Pitt. Tucked away on the eighth floor, he spends his days playing board games alone while his big brother Dennis saves lives downstairs. It's not permanent, but it's life for now. Being homeless, nine, and hidden gets lonely. Russell's forced to find solace in Scrabble, Superman, and the knowledge that Dennis is doing the best he can with what he's got. On the anniversary of the worst day of Michael Robinavitch's life, a poorly-timed asthma attack sends Russell right into the thick of it, emergency after emergency. And even though everyone-including he himself-knows that he's just a kid, Russell is drawn to trouble like a moth to the flame. He's ready to help in any way he can, even when the walls open up and spill their secrets like tears.

Kaylie Kennedy is twelve years old, and possibly the least fortunate girl she knows. With her whole family lost to a car accident, she lives with her well-meaning (if insufferable) aunt and uncle, and spends every day in a grief-stricken haze, barely even sure what she's still living for. The only person that she really likes anymore is Dr Abbot, the man who treated her the night her family died, but she's sure she's insignificant to him. Besides, seeing him means going back to the hospital. The place where everything fell apart. The place Kaylie hates the most. But, when she breaks her arm one morning, her worst fear suddenly becomes unavoidable, and she's suddenly being forced back inside her own personal nightmare. Memories of her family lie behind every curtain, and her grief is threatening to swallow her whole. Maybe if she just holds out, she tells herself, it'll pass. Maybe if she just holds out, something good will finally come.
