Maya Hale didn't expect anything from her senior year.
She didn't expect to be seen. She didn't expect to be singled out. She didn't expect to be understood by her teacher, of all people.
But Ms. Hayes wasn't like other teachers.
She was older, wiser, and should have known better.
She stared too long. She touched too gently. She whispered in hallways. She made Maya feel like she was the only person in the room.
