Her parents, who both have strong Chinese backgrounds, are a traditional couple living in a modern society. And while Rebecca loves them, she feels like she is suffocating under their ever watchful eye. And to make matters worse, Rebecca loves God and wants to go to church even though she knows that is not something her parents would like. So she hides it all from them; going to church, reading the Bible, and especially her massive crush on one of her best friends in her youth group, Cameron Davidson. But, quickly, the pressure starts to add up and keeping so many secrets from her parents while still trying to be the perfect daughter might make her world go up in flames.

But it's hard to stop flinching everytime she feels a hand on her back or open up about all those years stuck with her dad. Memories haunt her like a ghost from her past and it's hard to believe in this God that Jonah keeps telling her about, with unconditional love and mercy. One fateful night, Jonah's kindness breaks open a door to something Braylin would never have seen coming. Somehow, this stranger that Jonah offers a meal and bed to will turn Braylin's life toward something bigger than she could have ever predicted.
