He also spends thousands of dollars for you at the drop of a hat and holds your hand when you're feeling down. And in the beginning, that's okay. Neither of you let yourself get bogged down by labels, both of you being equally content to savor this newfound friendship. But deeper feelings always have a way of complicating things. Als der Kommisar Alec Hardy mit seiner Partnerin Ellie Miller auf einen neuen Mordfall stößt, ahnt er noch nicht in welche Schwierigkeiten ihn dieser Fall bringen wird. Die Hauptverdächtige ist eine junge Frau namens Alice Dawn. Alice arbeitet ebenfalls bei der Polizei, jedoch in einer anderen Stadt. Beide hegen eine regelrechte Abneigung gegeneinander, welche sie allerdings zur Seite stellen müssen, da ihre beiden Polizeipräsidien zusammenarbeiten. Für diese Zeit arbeitet Alice im Polizeirevier in Broadchurch und somit zusammen mit Alec Hardy. Die Situation verbessert sich allerdings auch nicht, als Ellie in den Mutterschutz geht und somit Alice zu Alecs Partnerin wird. Doch nach und nach stellt sich heraus, dass ein dunkles Geheimnis über ihrer Vergangenheit liegt und dass auch ihr Berufswunsch Kommissarin zu werden damit etwas zu tun hat. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt ist aber auch Alec ihr bereits näher gekommen, als er es jemals für möglich gehalten hatte.
