Stranded on a parallel Earth, the Tenth Doctor finds himself mentoring a traumatized child soldier enlisted in a hopeless war to save humanity. With an endless number of mysteries in sight -- from the enigmatic alien invaders they call Angels, to the strange machines known as Evangelions used in the planet's defense, to the shadowy maneuvers of those in power -- the Doctor is drawn deeper and deeper into a web of mistakes and sins that threaten to consume all humankind. In time, he'll face the darkest question of them all: what if there are some worlds -- and some children -- even the Doctor can't save?

En route to an urgent humanitarian mission, the U.S.S. Enterprise D stumbles upon a strange sight; a blue, wooden box stranded in the middle of Federation territory, motionless and without power. Its occupant, a strange, seemingly British chap stranded in a universe that is not its own. The challenge to the Enterprise's crew seems straightforward enough; learn if this strange occupant is really who and what he claims to be. But for the Doctor, the questions he face are far more troubling... and, should he find the answers he seeks, he may well wish he hadn't. He knew her. Beru. Vader knelt down next to her, using his cape to quell the bleeding from the boy's arm. Vader looked at the boy through his red lenses, sensing something he had never felt before. He should know this boy. He felt a connection. Owen broke past the stormtroopers who were now guarding the door to the headquarters, but they detained him before he reached Vader. "Let go of me. That's my son! Let go of me." Owen broke free and ran toward Vader. Vader turned just as Owen reached him, grabbing him with the Force by his neck and lifting Owen above him. Vader recognized him. "You!" Vader yelled. Something within Vader caused him to look back at the boy, and then to both Owen and Beru. There was no way that boy was theirs. There was no similarity. "You lie!"
