How else would the sun rise and set without the help of the sun gods? How would the crops prosper and the planet see? The answer is simple: the sun god is the bringer of light and warmth. However, we cannot just assume the god will always bring up the sun. The story from our ancestors begins like this: There was a time, long ago, where there were no sun sacrifices. The gods and the people were at peace with one another. The children played and the village worked together to help each other. But one day, Inti, the sun god, didn't rise. The town was in chaos. No one could see, the crops withered, and the village grew cold. Our Inca, or king, came up with a solution. We would sacrifice some of our young women to Inti and hope the sun would rise again. After the sacrificial ceremony, the village waited. The next day, the sun had risen and all was good. Since that day, a sacrifice has been made every night to please the sun god. Zara was a wonderful girl. She was beautiful, clever, and everything good in a person. However, she was a soon-to-be sacrifice to Inti. Even worse: her fate was chosen just days after her birth. As most would think, she should be upset with how cruelly she was to die. But she was not. It is an honor to be given up to Inti for the good of the people. That is, until she meets Khuno. He was just an ordinary boy who did as he was told. But what happens when a girl who has no choices meets a boy who does? ********I don't like how I wrote this, so I'm redoing it. Plan A might have been just as dangerous as the police insisted it was safe. It involved being locked away, out of sight and communication, and didn't solve the problem that Fran's stalkers seemed to have access to police files and data. Plan B the police didn't know about, and while the stalkers were at least temporarily out of the picture, it posed other problems. The police are now searching for her. Her stalkers are still looking for her. Her roommate doesn't know she's not a boy and a depressed teen movie star wants to be her friend. Being found out would blow her safety. Not to mention that the country thinks she might just be the victim -- or the cause -- of a spate of murders in the surrounding towns. Going to Darkwood private school was a risk, but not as risky as Plan A. The worry of trying to keep herself hidden from her schoolmates might become her main problem, but it still doesn't answer the most worrying question of all: just who were those stalkers, and what did they want? -- (Just so you all know, I've entered this book for the Hotkey Young Writers Prize. It would mean the world to me if you could support Plan B by voting for the first chapter (only votes on the first chapter count) before September 13th and then encouraging as many people as possible to read and vote as well. Thank you all so much!)

All the people within Portern feared me. They had every right to be. "If you ever cross her path, you'll be her next victim," they'd say. "She shows no mercy," they'd add for the children. But I didn't want to take anyone's life… not at first. Those who locked me up for their selfish needs are the ones who should truly fear me. I will destroy them from the inside, torture them to nothing so they may feel the pain so many have endured, including myself. I am Mist. And be warned: I'm coming.
