Venus Bartone is one of the 100, the people that were put into the skybox because they were too young to be executed. She was put there because her knowledge on building weapons out of next to nothing was too "dangerous". After being told that she was a danger to the remainder of mankind for almost nine years, she started to believe it. And she hated it. But when her abilities are needed on the ground, she realizes that what she knows and is able to do is not a sin, it's a gift. After making a certain young man a knife, she becomes closer with the boy that everyone seems to be afraid of. They had more in common than most people. However, she soon begins to realize that Murphy might be her downfall, but could also be her savior. She just doesn't care. The only problem is that everyone has a skeleton in the closet, a demon that hides under the bed waiting to destroy anything in it's path. And both Murphy and Venus have some of the darkest demons known to man.

On the Ark, having a second child is illegal. Which can result in the parents of the second child getting floated, and the second child being locked up until they were old enough to get floated too, leaving the first born without a family. At least, unless you were one of the privilaged. Abigail Griffin knew the rules, so she wasn't entirely pleased when she found out she was pregnant with a second child.
