Yes, you heard correctly ladies and gentlemen, a robot personality was once a human, stripped of their bodies and plugged into a computer. Fun stuff, huh? Well, much like many humans, Wheatley gets nightmares. But not just any regular "Oh no, scary stuff!" type of nightmares, these are...special. Have you ever had a dream where you couldn't tell if it really happened or not? Imagine that as a nightmare. Scary stuff. Along with the fright of such things, he usually has them about his best friend Chell dying, with his own death soon approaching after.
