Fred Weasley was never supposed to get under her skin. He was loud where Effie Whitcombe was quiet. Reckless where she was careful. Chaotic in all the ways she spent years trying not to be. At Hogwarts, they learned how to argue before they learned how to understand each other. What started as irritation slowly became something far more complicated...hidden somewhere between unfinished conversations, years of nevers, and the strange aftermath of surviving a war that left neither of them entirely untouched. Some people find their way into your life slowly. Others are there before you realize you've been looking for them. A slow burn enemies(ish)-to-lovers Fred Weasley x OC story spanning from Hogwarts to after the war. Some distances are impossible to keep.

Sarah Copper made Fred Weasley's pulse race. There was something about the confidence that did it for him. * * * "So, Sarah - " George began. "We were hoping we could have your help?" Fred continued, draping an arm on the back of the sofa. "Sure! What do you guys need?" Sarah asked, pushing her dark hair out of her eyes. George glanced at Fred, waiting for him to explain. "We need a sleeping draught potion," said Fred. He could see the clocks working in Sarah's mind, weighing out possibilities. Finally, Sarah spoke, "Alright, but I think we already have a problem." Sarah reached into her bag, pulling out 'Advanced Potion making 6'. She opened it to the contents, using her finger to single out the sleeping draught. She turned to the page, her eyes glued to the ingredients. "Ok, I'm going to need an apple, which is the easy bit to get," Sarah began, whilst Fred and George leaned over each shoulder to see the problem. They didn't see anything out of the ordinary. "What's the problem, then?" George and Fred chimed. Sarah smiled slightly, and for a moment, the twins thought they'd convinced her. "We need one Newt's spleen, which I ran out of," Sarah replied, her smile gone. It was replaced by a look of determination, mixed with a hint of excitement. "But, I know where we can find one," Sarah added, her voice as low as a whisper. Fred and George glanced at each other in curiosity, hoping Sarah would go on. "What are you saying?" Fred asked when Sarah didn't say anything. She did snap the book shut in excitement, standing up and stuffing it in her bag. Sarah turned back to the twins, who were also standing. "We're going to steal the spleen from Snape - " Sarah began, but Fred and George already knew how this was going to go. "- We're in!" They exclaimed in unison, causing Sarah to laugh. "I thought you were stuck on the whole soulmate idea?" He asked him. At first, George was confused, not understanding what he meant or why he couldn't just say it out loud, then his brain processed what he was being told, and he pulled his hand away from his neck. "I don't know," He said, thinking suddenly about the necklace around his neck that he had for as long as he could remember. His soulmate was born in September, meaning it appeared on him then, merely five months after he and Fred were born. Molly and Arthur were surprised, to say the least, only having just gotten used to the idea of their eldest son, Bill, having a soulmate as well, though he was seven years old when his soulmate was born, meaning that it was harder for him to adjust to the nonremovable fleur de lis pendant where for George wearing his was the only thing he knew. "Maybe it's her," Fred said out loud casually. "The chances of that are astronomically unlikely," George said, rolling his eyes. "Plus it says C.M.L.B. and she's Lupin." "But think about it. Is she?" Fred said suddenly, leaning over the table towards him seriously. "It would make everything make sense."

❝freddie, focus on the letter. your grammar's atrocious.❞ ❝you know i can't focus when you sit so close to me.❞ arabella sayer is unusual. not quirky or unlike other girls, mind you, and not unusual because she's a witch, but because she is unafraid. ara has never been afraid of anything. she's cuddled with hippogriffs, petted snakes, and once even jumped out of a second-story window to try and catch a butterfly. maybe it comes from being best friends with the weasley twins. ara's not sure. but as she enters her sixth year at hogwarts, two things begin to make her uneasy for the first time in her life: you-know-who's return looms on the horizon--and one of her best friends doesn't feel like just a friend anymore. fred weasley isn't afraid, either. or at least, when he is, he hides it well. he always gets nervous before quidditch matches or before dumbledore announces the house cup winners (gryffindor the past three years, baby), but nothing makes him as nervous as ara sayer. he's been in love with her since second year, but always kept it to himself for both hers and george's sake. but this year, something's different between them. something electric. ara will never stop fighting for what's right. fred will never stop fighting for the people he loves. maybe it's meant to be. I ran. I sprinted, a flame ignited in my lungs. I heard his strides behind me, I felt the dirt from his uniform flying on to my back. The woods enclosed me in a maze of trees, and when I glanced behind me, he had vanished. Fear rippled through my blood, my heart like a stampede in my chest as I slowly backed up, frantically looking around. "Looking for me?" His deep, coarse voice scratched the inside of my brain familiarly. I whipped my head around, and drew my dagger from my jacket. "Oh stupid girl," he sneered, quickly reacting, grabbing my shoulders harshly and slamming me against the nearest tree. I winced slightly as I felt a searing pain spread in my back. I put my blade to his neck despite it. "I've already killed them all. You're the only one left," he taunted, a smirk pulling at his mouth, "You have nothing left to live for," my dagger faltered slightly, "Let me make this clear Atlanta, you do not deserve to be loved. No one, no one will ever love you. No one..." his face was inches away from mine, and I could smell the fire on him. His mouth traveled to my ear as he whispered, "No one except me."
