"Come at me like a real man, or does your religion not allow you to spill blood?" She laughed and further lowered her lips to his ear, whispering, "You're weak and pathetic Captain." *** She was rather irritating, but had a disposition for sarcasm and wit. Fuelled by rage and past pain, one has to cover the obviousness with a bit of humour. Audrey Cecilia Embers, was a broken Christian mystery wrapped in misery. Stealing paintings was her signature style of a message to her competitors, or was it a hobby? Whatever she made it into, the objective is what will be her downfall, getting herself in a bigger mess and ending up in one of SHIELD's jails. The sweet smell of betrayal will be the outcome of this disaster, and she knows who played her. But before she can get some justice, her life spirals into a crazier direction when one family member comes back to haunt her to her grave. Amongst the mess, the assassin is faced with a difficult decision, and not only that, but she meets Captain America himself. He was a soldier in a general sense. He was regal, tall, strong-even handsome. And a gentleman. He followed the law where she broke it. He dotted his I's and crossed his T's where she wouldn't have cared. But when Audrey meets the golden boy, she doesn't like him. He's too gentle, too much about saving people, and very...patriotic. It will have to be up to her whether she can untangle the mess she got herself into or not. | completed book Cover: my own

"The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe published in Graham's Magazine in 1841. It has been recognized as the first modern detective story; Poe referred to it as one of his "tales of ratiocination". C. Auguste Dupin is a man in Paris who solves the mystery of the brutal murder of two women. Numerous witnesses heard a suspect, though no one agrees on what language was spoken. At the murder scene, Dupin finds a hair that does not appear to be human. As the first fictional detective, Poe's Dupin displays many traits which became literary conventions in subsequent fictional detectives, including Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. Many later characters, for example, follow Poe's model of the brilliant detective, his personal friend who serves as narrator, and the final revelation being presented before the reasoning that leads up to it. Dupin himself reappears in "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt" and "The Purloined Letter".
