Všichni jsou to urození čarodějové ovládající těžké stupně magie. Chereen je jejich přesným opakem. Místo krajkových šatů raději nosí kalhoty, toulá se po městě a magii neumí ovládat skoro vůbec. Zdá se jako dávno zavrhlý člen rodiny. Jelikož si všichni čarodějové z významných rodin v dětství musí vyvolat kouzlem svého čarodějnického pomocníka, Chereen není výjimkou. Zřejmě osud chtěl, aby si vyvolala opravdu silného společníka - lva Arthura, z kterého se stane její skoro jediný přítel. A potom je tady chlapec z obyčejné rodiny, se kterým se zná už od dětství. I přes to, že žije na přepychovém sídle, si nepřipadá nijak bohatě. Když zjistí, že na jejich sídlo má zavítat známý šlechtic s půvabným jménem Gabriel, je tvrdohlavě rozhodnutá, že se ani v jeho přítomnosti nebude chovat jako dáma, a tak se představuje jako rebelka pobíhající po lesích se svým lvem a patnáctiletým obyčejným chlapcem.
