A retired detective keeps receiving strange notes at his door. First one stating that he has to keep them a secret, or a secret of his own will be released to the world. As time goes on, the notes get more and more violent, as it causes the man to commit horrible deeds that seem to have no specific purpose or order. The man commits these acts, but doesn't realize everything is for a purpose. As this is taking place, the man joins the police force once again, to track down a serial killer known as "The Messenger".
