The host club is preparing to hold a small party for all of it's members at your brother, Tamaki's, and your house. Yes, your brother is Tamaki, and today's your birthday, that is why the host club is at your house. But the thing is you don't know this because they sent you out with Haruhi to help her with some of her errands -to keep you out of the way-.
