Hope has always struggled in life, when she was a young child her mother ran off leaving Hope with her father, who soon lost it. With no parents Hope is forced to live with a large religious family. Everything changes the way she dresses, acts, spends her time, and she hates it. Everyone is leaving and rejecting her, but she then meets this strange, mysterious, and outcast of a boy. There are many horrible rumours about him, can she really trust him? Can she trust anyone...?

Mysterious things are happening. Villagers disappearing from the nearby town, strange tracks and bodies of human and animal alike are being found. There is only one hope, well five to be exact. The gates. Once all are open demons will once again be allowed to roam freely among the humans. Placed around the world and protected for centuries, the gates are safe. Or are they?
