His beautiful dark skin and short frizzy hair shows that he’s different. They see us as different and they don’t like it. - Born and brought up in the west with a Pakistani father and Palestinian mother, Esha’s never been liked by her extended family in Pakistan. All Sami had was space. Space was all that Radia desired. His dorm room was so empty and lifeless that he felt imprisoned in the endless silence. Her bedroom was full of her sister's mess, her ears full of her sister's constant chattering, and an overwhelming feeling of being cramped with no privacy. After much patience and long hardships, when both their wishes are finally somewhat granted, is it really as good as they expected?

The last two years of Sameena Ahmad's life have been interesting, to say the least. Why? Maybe it was because she was the Prime Minister's daughter. Or maybe it's because that's when the suitors started knocking on her door. One after another, Sameena either declined or accepted the requests. The men who actually made it to her living room were considered lucky. Two years later, and after a particularly bad experience, Sameena is more picky and cautious than ever. Past experiences with men have her reconsidering what they're really on the hunt for. Her love? Or something else... Things only take a turn for the worst, when tension arises throughout the country and a revolution seems imminent. Sameena will stand by her father and family but the biggest question is...who can she really trust?

Introverted Ilhaam is a hopeless romantic waiting for her own love story, but somehow has come to believe that no man will ever truly love her because of one feature that she is very insecure about - being BROWN-SKINNED. Will Ilhaam meet the man of her dreams? Will she overcome her unending insecurities? Above all, will she learn to love herself? ------- B.O.A.T is more than just a cliche romance. It is a story that revolves around a real social issue - COLORISM, which for years has tormented many people's lives, including mine. I've tried my best to portray the struggles of a brown-skinned girl as it is, which sometimes might look too exaggerated and negative for some readers. Of course, I could've written about a girl who finds comfort and loves her skin tone right from chapter one (because who doesn't like to read about a confident heroine, right?), but I didn't want to sugar-coat anything. This is a story about heartbreak, fighting through your insecurities, falling down, picking yourself up, and learning to love yourself without the need of validation from a man. Try reading it :) You'd love it ♥️ ----- WINNER - Sri Lankan Writers' Awards 2020 (15-09-2020)
