The Marauders are starting their fifth year at Hogwarts; Remus is starting with a massive scar across his face - a byproduct of the increasing severity of his furry little problem, which is a definite cause for concern despite his insistence that it it's fine. Sirius is starting with the memories of a certain morning at 12 Grimmauld Place in August: memories that he might not ever forget, yet is desperate to cloak underneath the facade that every is fine at home and that he and his parents just sometimes encounter minor disagreements. James is starting his fifth year, yes, but more importantly, he is starting phase five of his plan to woo Lily Evans: somehow his friends seem doubtful that he might succeed, but James, being James, is in no lack of confidence. And Peter, well, Peter is starting to wonder just why he puts up with these people, and if he should really be feeling sorry for Lily Evans, and maybe if he should have asked to have been sorted into Hufflepuff.

Remus Lupin jest rozważnym i nieco introwertycznym krukonem, który właśnie rozpoczął swój piąty rok nauki w Hogwarcie. Na codzień nie zajmuje się niczym szczególnym, większość czasu poświęca nauce, czytaniu i rozmowom ze swoją najlepszą przyjaciółką Lily. Na pierwszy rzut oka życie chłopaka nie różni się od życia każdego przeciętnego nastolatka - rzeczywistość jednak jest inna i zdecydowanie bardziej ponura. Syriusz Black sprawia wrażenie chłopaka, któremu nic nie brakuje. Ma przyjaciół, jest inteligentny i błyskotliwy, dobrze się uczy. Ponadto jest całkiem popularny, co powoduje, że większa część hogwartu oddałaby bardzo wiele, aby móc się z nim zaprzyjaźnić. Wydawać by się mogło, że nie ma takiego problemu, który mógłby choć w niewielkim stopniu zaprzątać głowę gryfona. Tymczasem tak naprawdę to tylko pozory - w zasadzie Syriusz boryka się z pewnymi przeciwnościami losu, które coraz częściej go przytłaczają, sprawiając, że chłopak zastanawia się nad sensem wszystkiego w co wierzy i tego, jakie podjął decyzje. Remus i Syriusz nie znają się. Praktycznie rzecz biorąc, nigdy wcześniej nie zwracali na siebie uwagi. Teraz jednak los sprawił, że ich drogi połączyły się. Co z tego wyniknie? Czy Remus mimo wcześniejszej obojętności i niechęci do Huncwotów będzie w stanie spojrzeć na Syriusza w inny sposób? Czy dostrzeże w nim coś, czego nie dostrzegają inni? Remus tries his best to be there for his best friend, but his state of mind isn't the healthiest either.
