There is no night in the Everburning City. There can never be. ***** For four hundred years the Everburning City has withstood the advance of the life-strangling fog known as the Gloam. Its walls have held back five invasions, but on the eve of the sixth, the city's inhabitants know things have changed. Golems are coming out of the mist, and the bodies of the dead are rising at the Gloam's bidding. The city's last and most desperate line of defence comes in the form of the Crafters, individuals who can channel the power of fire, though they risk their sanity each time they do. The brightest of these valiant heroes are Tabitha a'Loria and her apprentice Gerald Reath. Risking their lives, they mount their airships, determined to save the last bastion of humanity - the Everburning City. [[word count: 100,000-150,000 words]]

"People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar." It's been two years one hundred and twenty seven days since the disappearance of Sherlock Holmes. But who could blame him? The year before he disappeared was the worst year of his life. He lost everyone. His parents. His siblings. His friends. Nine deaths in a single year. One could say that he had a death to mourn for every month. It wasn't how you would think it would be. No, not at all. They didn't die from a murderer or a serial killer. There was just accidents, cancer, missions, and heart attacks. But Sherlock had convinced himself that something, someone, was behind the murder of his family. It drove him absolutely insane and over the edge and he went back to smoking, pills, and needles. He pushed his body past its limit and he drove away the only one who was still alive. John Watson had refused to be around him because it hurt his heart to see Sherlock in such a desperate and broken state. John pleaded with Sherlock to stop destroying himself, but the stubborn man just wouldn't listen. Watson figured that Sherlock had left when his birthday came around and he didn't get an anonymous text that he was waiting for. And she was dead too. Sherlock Holmes was declared missing two years and one hundred twenty seven days ago. And after two years of this secluded life out in the middle of nowhere, an unsuspected visitor comes and finds Sherlock at his hidden door. Confused and high, what will the retired consulting detective do when a young fifteen year old girl shows up with a letter addressed to her from him? When he doesn't even have access to a mailbox? I have taken canon characters from the original Sherlock Holmes novels and turned their story into a modern day mystery just like the Sherlock Holmes on BBC we know and love - with a little twist ;) #10 in ireneadler *PG-13 for drug use/reference and language

Unlike all the Debutantes she knows, eighteen-year-old Vita couldn't care less about her coming out ball. Trapped in her gloomy country estate, all she wants is to spend the summer dancing to jazzy numbers in East End clubs with her best friend Izzy. Freshly returned from a year abroad, Izzy is ready for the thrill of the London Season, with its endless whirl of balls, shopping sprees and horse races. Most importantly, she's counting on Vita to help her find the rich and handsome husband every high society girl deserves. But when Vita is kidnapped and found barely alive in an East London alleyway, the carefree summer the girls had planned turns into something much stranger than they could ever have imagined. With flappers turning up dead all over the city, and Vita terrified of hybrid monsters she swears she can see lurking in Mayfair's marbled houses, Izzy can't help noticing that darkness is seeping into their lives. As Vita starts to believe she's turning into a monster herself, Izzy suspects her friend's sanity is slipping away. Both girls have to find out what's happening before they lose their friendship and status, and their crowd of Bright Young Things becomes a thing of the past. *** A Wattpad Featured Story from 16/02/17 to 25/07/17 HIGHEST RANKING: # 5 on the Wattpad Historical Hot List *** THE BRIGHT AND THE LOST Pinterest Board: http://uk.pinterest.com/emcastellan/the-bright-and-the-lost/ *** Cover designer: Amalia Chitulescu *** Copyright © 2016.
