Chapter One of a story I started. I'm only posting chapter one to get some feedback so I can see what works and what doesn't. It was a normal assignment: "parent" an egg for two weeks to learn about responsibility. For Kyle, however, the end of the assignment brings about a whole new beginning.

He speaks calmly and holds up his arms as if he's approaching a scared animal. "Just come with me and everything will be alright." Even through my fevered vision I see his lie clear as day. He reaches for me in the little space between us. I pull away and feel my feet slip on the edge of the cliff. The fall feels like it lasts a lifetime. I hear someone scream my name.
