Rose Red is a 21 year old law student living in New York. She has a full-time job as a barista to pay her way and acts as a part-time caretaker for her mother. When she receives a call from Pinecrest hospital about her grandmother falling ill, she immediately goes to Maine to take care of her grandmother, leaving her mother behind in New York to watch after her apartment and get her life in order. Not familiar with the town her mother grew up in, but all too familiar with the dark stories about it and the woods, she comes to find that the town is full of secrets and there is more truth behind the tales and legends about the woods than the townspeople are letting on. After encountering two strange, but handsome men, being rescued from a grizzly bear, and meeting the infamous wolf from the legends, she has a decision to make. Will she leave Maine and her grandmother, along with the secrets of the town, far behind her, or will she stay and see what journey she will embark on? Whatever decision Rose makes, she quickly learns that there is a hefty price to pay.

In the small town of Marelle there have been rumors of the wicked wolf. He will prowl the woods that surround the town, searching for the next woman that he will take from this world. His eyes are brighter than the sun, his teeth as sharp as knives, and his claws can cut through a life's string faster than a strike of lightning. After Scarlett's grandmother falls ill, she moves to the small town that her mother refuses to step foot in again in order to help her grandmother and she is enlivened by the simplicity of this small town. Scarlett, who has always lived in a busy and overpopulated city, falls in love with the quaintness of this town. The only problem with this town, in her mind, is the superstitions that surround the monster in the woods. The town tells her to never go to the woods, for a wolf will come for her and take her away from her grandmother and life itself. She doesn't listen to the superstitions, and when her grandmother's dog runs into the woods without a leash, Scarlett rushes after him. And she meets the Big Bad Wolf. She rarely gets sleep and doesn't even have a love life due to her nightmares.
