The winter months are approaching and Janus is in brumation. As with hibernation in mammals, reptile's bodies shut down and conserve energy for the coming year during brumation. During the period of brumation, a reptile may not eat, drink, defecate, or move for several weeks. With all of this, Janus feels guilty for needing to sleep and the others are there to help and understand. Janus has had these kinds of melt-downs before, and Remus was always there to set him straight once again. But when he is finally accepted by the Light Sides his room had moved, leaving him and Remus apart. He breaks into the biggest melt-down he's had and Remus is blocked from helping him.

This is based on a role play I did in a Sanders Sides fan group. It is also inspired by the show Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts and a podfic called The Selfish Protector by DragonSaphira Reads. Anyway synopsis: Janus wasn't sure where it had all gone wrong. Everything had been going so well. He'd been getting along better with the ligh- 'other' sides, Roman and Virgil had definitely seemed to be getting used to his presence in videos, and they'd even been inviting him to join in on their famILY traditions. Where had it gone wrong? His snake half. Janus had noticed that he'd been adopting more reptilian traits. Shedding? Fine. A few extra scales? Easy to hide... mostly. But it's become more and more prominent and more and more painful and frustrating to deal with. Janus won't ask for help, fearing the others might start to not trust him again and undo everything he'd worked for. How will this go? Logan, Roman, Patton, Virgil, Remus, and Janus belong to Thomas Sanders. I don't know what ships will be in this or if there even will be any, but I'm assuming I'll end up adding either Moceit, Loceit, or Roceit. Virgil has been happy all his life. He was joyful, bubbly, had friends, had loving parents (keywords: has, had, and was). His parents tragically got into a plane crash and so he got shipped off to Florida to live with his aunt, having to leave his friends, house, family, most of his belongings, and -what he didn't know yet- his joyful, happy attitude behind. He also had no clue his aunt was abusive, emotionally and physically and did drugs. His aunt drank all day and beat Virgil, drunk or sober. She would scream horrible things at him while beating, cutting, and/or whipping him. He was forced to live in his aunts dark dirty shed instead of her house. He had no bed and barely any food or water. She treated him as if he was her slave, making him cook and clean. When he was done with chores she would throw him back into the shed and beat him and yell him and not let him sleep or eat, " Bad boys don't get to eat," she would say, " you have to earn what you get" One day after she left the shed, cackling madly like a witch she forgot to lock the shed door. Virgil was weak, bruised, bloody, and starving but managed to escape. He ran. Ran for hours and hours and hours. People avoided him due to how skinny and vulnerable and beaten he was. Some jerks his age stopped to taunt and tease him about how pathetic he looked. Suddenly he bumped into a stranger who goes by the name of Roman. The moment Roman saw Virgil something inside him told him he needed to protect this boy. He took him in, frantically scrambling into his four bedroom house and over to his friends/room mates Patton and Logan, who were quite shocked to see him in this condition. As they gradually got to know him, helping him get better, Virgil grew close to them, especially Roman. But he always had that nagging thought in the back of his head, "Am I sure i can trust them? What if their going to hurt me like she did? Do they really like me?" After all, how could someone who was taught to fear learn to love?

"Remus and Roman, Roman and Remus!" Our mother used to sing when she'd scoop us up into her arms like we were a gift from the heavens. She'd swing us through the air, when we were still small enough for her to. She used to nuzzle her nose against ours and coo. "My boys." Now, when we help make dinner, Dad only asks: "Remus, what would you like tonight?" No one uses my name anymore. It isn't Remus and Roman, Roman and Remus. It's just Remus. One little boy, instead of two. --- Roman and Remus are twin souls who share a body, but nobody knows that Roman's still here. This quick-read story is inspired by the book "What's Left of Me."

This is Virgil's 4th Christmas with the 'Lightsides' and the 'Darksides' are coming over. The lights don't know about Virgil's animal persona and this year they might figure it out.
