"It was never meant to last," Seokjin said quietly, like he was reminding himself more than anyone else.
Jungkook nodded once. Slow. Controlled. As if he were agreeing to something that had always been true. "Right," he said. "A contract." He looked at Seokjin then-really looked at him-his expression carefully blank, eyes giving nothing away. "And somehow," he added softly, "we forgot to keep it just that."
They'd been bound by decisions made long before either of them could refuse--called obligation, but sealed by fate. A marriage neither of them wanted, until wanting became the one thing they were never supposed to have.
